The Sierra Leone Telegraph was today informed by a reliable source in Freetown, that after more than six months of being robbed of his civil liberty by the Koroma government, presidential aspirant Alie Kabba has been handed his American passport, seized by the authorities in Sierra Leone.

Details of the circumstances surrounding the handover remain undisclosed. However, it is understood that the Sierra Leone government has been under immense pressure to reinstate the civil rights of the opposition leader, after he was subjected to multiple arrests, incarceration and harassment.

Alie Kabba is yet to comment on news of the return of his passport, which is seen by many observers as a significant development in an ongoing saga.

Alie kabba8There are unconfirmed reports that as an result of international diplomatic pressure mounted on the APC government for their high-handedness, many APC government officials were denied American visa.

Expressing her joy and relief at hearing the news, this is what Alice Conteh, a staunch Alie Kabba supporter had to say: “This victory over abuse of power and extreme judicial overreach is one big step in a sustained struggle that will end with the election of Alie Kabba as President of Sierra Leone.”

Alie Kabba, a leading opposition aspirant for the country’s presidency, was arrested and locked up several times following his arrival in the country in December last year to pursue his political ambition.

His initial arrest last December, which many believed to have been politically motivated, was sparked by a police report filed by senior government minister – Diana Konomanyi, accusing Alie of marrying her while he was still married to another woman.

As the case continues to be regularly adjourned in the High Court, supporters of Alie Kabba are accusing the government of political manipulation and using the judiciary to score political goals.

Alie kabba6Meanwhile, appearing in court last Thursday, 14th July, to give evidence in the alleged “bigamy” case that she brought against her former husband, Diana Konomanyi made a staggering revelation.

She admitted to the court that contrary to her emphatically avowed claims in the past, she had indeed once been married to a Steven Jusu in the Camberwell District of Southwark Borough, in South East London.

Alie Kabba is a strong voice on the SLPP opposition side that is seeking to replace an APC government, many regard as corrupt and inept.

Last week’s High Court case was adjourned till the end of the month, when the government minister Konomanyi will be cross examined.

  1. Mustache: With all due respect, I wonder if you know how many concubines our current President has at any given point in time. The list is longer than the distance from Tombo to Waterloo.

Let’s get back to the real issue here – the abuse of power and violation of a citizen’s civil liberty. Today, it is Alie Kabba. Tomorrow, it may be you.

Stand up for Alie Kabba today so that our tomorrow will be firmly anchored in the rule of law. The persistent persecution of Alie Kabba is wrong…plain and simple.

The case against him, according to objective legal minds (including APC lawyers), should have been thrown out at the magistrate court. Unfortunately, politics derailed justice.

Alie Kabba is the best candidate to take SLPP to State House. That is why the APC government is terrified and scared of him. They want to keep this case as a dark cloud hanging over his head until the SLPP delegate convention, when the party will choose a presidential candidate.

Oh, well, God is the Decider of Destiny. Alie will triumph over all the evil machinations!

  2. Francis Kpaka,

Let us continue acting with civility and respect one another as a people of Sierra Leone, including kontri & krio, circumcised & uncircumcised, etc. We should not be a political partisan people- neither as APC, PMDC, nor as SLPP. Of course, we are of One People and One Country. There is no need for tribalism and regionalism in a small country of only 7 million people.

As a matter of fact, majority of the electorates of the country identify themselves politically by the color of their dress as follows:

“Red for APC; Green SLPP; and Orange PMDC.”

There is therefore the need for political liberation and freedom on our ‘outfit’- as what we ‘wear’ and how we ‘appear’ before anyone and everyone. We need it NOW!

While I am not interested in poking my nose inquisitively into somebody’s private business, however, with regards to Mr. Alie Kabba’s womanism or illicit affairs that have been made public, permit me to make the following very credible references to you and all readers:

See “Sierra Load (SL), December 28, 2015 by Abu Sorie with headline ‘What I Know About Alie Kabba ‘s Arrest – Hon. Diana Konomanyi Speaks Out’.”

    That article states that:

“Alie Kabba presented himself as Divorced from his “two” previous marriages,’ including that with Edith Cline Kabba.”

In addition, Ms Diana made the following statements on Awoko Newspaper, Friday July 15, 2016:

“She explained in Court that she entered into a civil marriage with Kabbah in August 2013 but in December 2013 she found out that her ex-husband was still legally married to his first wife. I confronted him about him not divorcing his first wife and that resulted in a fight.

She furthered that Alie Kabba seized their marriage certificate and she had to involve their God-parents.

When Alie Kabba was confronted he refused to produce the marriage certificates to our God parents, stating that he has something to do with it the United States of America (USA).

They got divorced and in December 2015, Konomanyi filed a complaint of bigamy against Kabbah, alleging that he was still married to his wife in the United States. Kabbah was arrested and detained following the complaint.

Responding to questions whether she was married before, Diana informed the court that “yes I did get married to Steven Jusu Bockarie in 1989 in the United Kingdom and got divorced in 1994 with an issued divorce certificate.

She presented her divorce certificate in court and it was marked exhibit M 1&2.

Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Sulaiman Ahmad Bah represented the State’s case against Kabbah, while defense attorneys Francis Ben Kaifala and Umar N. Koroma represented Kabbah.

Kabba’s defense attorneys asked for an adjournment to 28th July 2016 at which time they plan to cross examine Konomanyi.”

Mr. Alie Kabba can be likened to a “Euryhaline Fish” that is able to live in both salt and fresh water. He is unlike those fishes that acclimatize themselves and can only survive within a narrow range of salinities.

As a result, Mr. Alie Kabba’s dual citizenship-Sierra Leonean & American- does not give him the legal right to violate the Law of the Land of Sierra Leone with impunity. He has an American Passport in his possession without any Sierra Leonean Passport. He needs to face the consequences of his fowl actions, which can best be described as:

“Thiefman thief Thiefwoman, with her funny behind.”

    What an abomination!

Ms Diana Konomanyi should be made to understand that:

“People who live in glass houses should not throw out stones.”

Sure, let the Law take its full course as follows without compromise or corruption:

“Punishable by jail terms of 5 years for the bride if found guilty, and 7 years for the groom if found guilty.”

As a citizen of the republic of Sierra Leone with constitutional duties under section 13 (Every Citizen) subsection j.

“render assistance to appropriate and lawful agencies in the maintenance of law and order.”

I hereby ask the Parliament of Sierra Leone to take part and reword the constitution on “dual” citizenship of the country as soon as possible or without delay.

If Mr. Alie Kabba is seriously interested in politics, he can actively participate in the United States of America political affairs like Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger from Austria who became twice Governor of California, and Mr. Henry Kissinger as Secretary of State of the United States of America, though originally from Germany.

Lastly, I ask that you take a look at the Constitution of Sierra Leone and see the required qualifications to contest the presidency of the country. Amen.

  3. Moustache – what are the indications you referring to? To tell the wider public that Alie is not fit to rule Sierra Leone is another political own goal scoring fabrication. How is he a womanizer? Has he been proven guilty of the said offence?

Tell me which of the male leaders in Sierra Leone that isn’t a womanizer. I hope you are not and have never been one. let the law take its firm position. But hanging on the tailcoats of the few who have swindled the law is unacceptable and insane.

Let us look at issues in our country, rather than judging people on their unproven characters. By the way, what are the qualifications to vie for presidency in Sierra Leone? Please enlighten me.

    • Ekundayo Pratt, thanks for your comments. I do agree that Section 5 of the Sierra Leone Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2006 states that:” A Citizen of Sierra Leone may hold a Citizenship of another country in addition to his Citizenship of Sierra Leone “, thus replacing Section 10 of Act No 4 of 1973 which had previously failed to recognise this.

The purpose of dual Citizenship within this context was to allow Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora to return home freely, with the right to live and work as they choose. The said Amendment of Section 5 of the Act does not go further than this, and therefore open to different interpretations.

However, permit me to draw your attention to Section 76 (1) (a) of the Sierra Leone National Constitution 1991 (reinst.1996, rev.2008) which clearly states that: “No person shall be qualified for election as a Member of Parliament if he is a Nationalized Citizen of Sierra Leone or is a Citizen of a country other than Sierra Leone having become such a Citizen voluntarily or is under a declaration of Allegiance to such a country….”

I hope this explains my position.

  4. Is Alie Kabba Sierra Leonean or an American Citizen? I asked this question because he should have no business in Sierra Leone politics if he wants to enjoy the favours and protection guaranteed to American Citizens in dire situations when visiting abroad. Even with dual nationality there is no guarantee of protection when involved in politics or crimes in the country of origin.

There is a saying much attuned in these circumstances: ‘you can’t eat your cake and have it’. I feel sorry for him and his concerns and positive agenda to make Sierra Leone a better place, but taking his ‘NATIONALITY ‘ into consideration he is neither here nor there.

    • APCunmmings, you need to go and study the constitution of Sierra Leone and the laws regarding citizenship of this country. Alie Kabba is a Sierra Leonean, born and bred. And there is nothing wrong or unlawful about possessing dual nationalities in this country.

In fact, just in case you dont know this, many senior officials and ministers in the Koroma government have dual nationality, having lived overseas and by virtue of their Sierra Leonean birth right. No one is begrudging them that privilege.

You do sound like a typical APCeer who wants our country to return to communist dictatorship, where the rights of the individual especially those opposed to your APC government are being trampled upon.

None of the ministers in the Koroma government with dual citizenship has rescinded their foreign passport. Not a single one. Why should Alie Kabba be punished for that.

The APC regime is a communist, repressive dictatorship that knows no bounds when it comes to civil liberty. But the ICC is watching.

  5. Abdulai Braima,

Whereas I am not PERFECT, I have my own weaknesses too and pray to God for spiritual strength everyday. With that said, I have a couple of questions for Sierra Leone’s presidential aspirant, Mr. Alie Kabba, as follows:

    1. Is Mr. Alie Kabba legally married?

    2. If yes, who is his current wife?

I am asking simply because the word of God says that:

“Marriage should be ‘honored by all,’ and ‘the marriage bed kept pure,’ for ‘God will judge the adulterer’ and all the sexually immoral.” Hebrews 13:4 (NIV).

Please know that the presidency is not for ‘palampos or the unmarried,’ divorcees, and bigamous people. For even king Abimelek of Gerar was married.

“Then Abraham prayed to God, and God ‘healed’ Abimelek, ‘his wife’ and his female slaves so they could have children again, for ‘the Lord had kept all the women’ in Abimelek’s household ‘from conceiving’ because of Abraham’s wife Sarah.”

    See “Genesis 20:17,18.” (NIV).

    • Mustache Moustache,

I see that you want to position yourself as some highly esteemed Man-of-God, but sadly you end up sounding a lot more like one of those self-righteous shallow-minded Pharisees that Jesus Christ so specifically warned his flock to be wary of.

You are here screaming to the high heavens about “Alie Kabba’s marital status” while conveniently side-stepping the fact that you and your APC lordlings are at the very bottom of the heap when it comes to moral rot.

Do you know that if your “triple married” APC idol had not directly interfered with Alie’s marital home, it is possible that that marriage may still have subsisted?

I notice that you quote so many passages from the Bible in seeming moral outrage, but for a man of your painful pretense, it is particularly telling the manner of words you used to end your first posting on this article. It is so foul, even you should be ashamed of the colour of your insulting expressions.

No wonder you prefer to hide behind your double “Moustaches” to spill your thinly veiled venom.

For some of you APC surrogates that parade the net in the camouflage robe of pious preachers, the desperation is beginning to show, painfully.

I believe, not even a bucketful of anointed water is going to succeed in washing off that downpour of Ebola sin. Especially so when you continue to drape yourself in the thickest cloud of blasphemous hypocrisy.

Your redeeming hold is to accept that Alie Kabba is not being hounded because he may have allegedly been married to two women at some point, but because he is seen as a potent force that is capable of sweeping aside the entire rotten system that is killing our country to the soul, and replacing it with a saner and less “sinful” society.

  6. Good points Abdulai Brima. Mr Alie Kabba may have made a mistake getting involved with that woman, but that does not mean he should be thrown underneath the bus by the APC government for political advantage. This is impunity gone mad in this country.

I am not a fan of Mr Kabba, but the longer this government continues to persecute him, the more people like me will support his cause.

Thank you for your comments. Someone has to stand up for justice in this country and Mr kabba is doing just that.

  7. Mustache Moustache, I don’t blame you for being “confused” by this legal Ariogbo dance charade. The fact is, most people are.

When a seemingly innocuous legal case becomes entangled with the heavy overlays of political chicanery and smeared with state interest, then what should be a simple straightforward court matter ( or home matter) takes on a life of its own.

That is exactly what we are seeing being played out here. If cockroaches were insects, (which I thought they are), this “case” would have had not a single leg to crawl on. From the very first slash of the knife, we all saw how mightily powerful “the powers from above” could swing cases into spaces not breathable for anyone an inch below the High Powers that be. Especially when such a someone happens to be in the business of replacing the pulsating core of the existing corrupt edifice with something more decent for EVERYONE.

Alie Kabba may not be an angel, but only those who don’t truly know him, or those who may hope to profit from the demise of a radical progressive visionary may pray for a paint from the devil to cover his deserved solid image.

Certainly, any moral crusade against Alie can only be worth considering where the crusaders themselves reserve some shred of decency and some symptom of honesty, above the corrosive brand that shines so crushingly as the norm of wear, at the highest echelons of our governance system.

In this case, it is not just the question of “who is clean enough to throw the first stone to crush the man”, but “where is the stone that is heavy enough to be thrown”?

True, the purposes of moral probity and the demands of general parity, should direct that “nobody should be above the laws of the land”. We should all adhere to the fairly balanced maxim which says: “That which is good for the gander, must also be good for the geese.”

But that is precisely the problem. There is no “goose” or “gander” here. Even the EXCUSES of the laws we have, (or what we call “OUR laws”) have been disparagingly and despairingly questioned by its custodians as well as its dispensers. Especially, in the way in which it is dished out by the COOKS.

What we have here is an officially protected “tigress” and a heavily chained “lion”. And they are pushed towards each other in a duel, where all the keys that Spring the “laws” are clawed by the tigress in town. Any talk of “fair play” in such a contest is mere ridicule.

    But still there is God!

  8. For those of us who see this case as a smokescreen and diversionary tactic by the APC government, the return of the passport, if true, represents a step in the right direction.

The issue of civil liberty underscores my concern about the manner in which Alie Kabba’s freedom was curtailed by the seizure of his passport. Many jurists observed that the seizure was unnecessary. It was another manifestation of the ongoing persecution of a patriot whose history of opposition to the APC makes him an obvious target of government repression.

The matter between Alie and Diana should be amicably addressed through inter-family deliberation away from the media and APC operatives. Unfortunately, Diana allowed herself to be a willing tool in the APC arsenal of political shenanigans.

The whole saga is a distraction from important issues like mass unemployment, poor electricity supply, hyper-inflation, broken healthcare system, falling academic standards, lack of press freedom, corruption, etc., in Sierra Leone today.

I am confident that Alie Kabba will emerge victorious. The judiciary may be rotten to the core, but there are still a few good judges in Sierra Leone who believe in justice and do their job without political interference from the executive branch.

Alie Kabba’s vision for our country is the reason why I support him. He is not part of the corrupt political establishment that has kept our country in poverty since gaining independence from Britain in 1961. He represents a new path that will take us to a hopeful place, where we can live in dignity and celebrate the true meaning of independence. He will definitely make a great President of the land we love – – Sierra Leone.

  9. Last week July 15, 2016, the Awareness Times Newspaper carried out this News Headline on its Front Page:

“Diana Konomanyi Testifies in Bigamy Case against Ex-Husband.” By Abdul Malik Bangura.

What I find intriguing and baffling about this News Headline is that it made no mention of the name “Mr. Steven Jusu Bockarie” in its content as the ex-husband of Ms Finda Diana Konomanyi.

Who is covering up the matter with both parties now washing their dirty linen publicly in court?

    Who is fooling who?

By the way, just before administering the legal oath, Diana was advised by Haja Seray Kallay not to proceed with the marriage proposal unless Mr. Alie Kabba presents official divorce papers stating that his wedlock with Mrs. Edith Cline Kabba in the United States of America has been dissolved. But, she did not listen and impatiently went ahead to marry Mr. Alie Kabba. Only to nullify their union on January 30, 2015 in Freetown.

Furthermore, Ms Diana made the followings statements on Sierra Load (SL), December 28, 2015:

    “Hi Admin,

I think the insults against me in this your group is now going tooooooo far. You really need to do something against Anna Moussa and Misheal Kallon.

‘I had never been married in my life’ and it is not out of lack of marriage proposals. ‘I have been Single and never married’ until I agreed to marry Alie Kabba when he proposed to me in the year 2013.

Alie Kabba presented himself as Divorced from his two previous marriages. After I found out he tricked me into marriage, I let him know I will sue him for Bigamy.”

See “What I Know About Alie Kabba ‘s Arrest – Hon. Diana Konomanyi Speaks Out,” by Abu Sorie.

But, last week July 15, 2016 she revealed her previous legal marriage to Mr. Steven Jusu Bockarieas follows:

“Responding to questions whether she was married before, Diana informed the court that “yes I did get married to Steven Jusu Bockarie in 1989 in the United Kingdom and got divorced in 1994 with an issued divorce certificate.

She presented ‘her divorce certificate’ in court and it was marked exhibit M 1&2.”

See “Sierra Leone News: Diana Konomanyi testifies in bigamy case,” by Awoko Newspaper, Friday July 15, 2015.

Are we the people of Sierra Leone being taken deceptively for a foolish legal ride by Ms Diana and Mr. Alie Kabba?

By all indications, Mr. Alie Kabba is a womanizer and not qualified to be President of Sierra Leone. Let him go and first put his leaking pants in order. Shame on him! Amen.
