Reverend Dr. Shyllon – retired senior police officer released from detention

Sierra Leone Telegraph: 5 January 2020:

The retired ADC of former president Ernest Bai Koroma – Reverend Dr. Reuben Shyllon, has this afternoon been released from detention by the police. His two daughters were released yesterday without charge. (Photo above: Reverend Shyllon – right, his wife – centre, on his release this afternoon, with Dr Sylvia Blyden on the left).

The arrest was made yesterday, after a dispute in Hamilton, Freetown, involving the bodyguard of the SLPP parliamentary aspirant- Josephine Jackson of constituency 110 and Reverend Shyllon, degenerated into violence – with gunshots fired by the bodyguard. No one was injured or killed.

This afternoon, 1pm Sunday January 5th 2020, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden (OOR) said: “Thank God for the release of Reverend Dr. Reuben Shyllon, the retired senior Police Officer, former ADC to Former President Koroma and former Head of the CDIID at Police Headquarters. He is now on his way home to his house at Hamilton Village.

“Thanks to all who made the release possible. Special thanks to UK-based Journalist – Mr. Abdul Rashid Thomas of the SIERRA LEONE TELEGRAPH for the awareness raising.

“The good reverend will report again to the C.I.D. tomorrow morning for further investigations.
He has however been released on his own cognizance without any request for him to have someone sign for Bail.

“This is good and a big boost to our democratic credentials that he can be released on his own cognizance. I am driving him home now. Thanks again to all.” (Photo: Reverend Shyllon on his release this afternoon).

  1. S. J Koroma— “ If the Reverend had taken the matter to the Police or consulted the Ministry of Lands (as he was the seller of the Land) before, we would not have got the present situation. Unfortunately some People believe that Politicians are enemies. They are not, so why can’t a Reverend (though former ADC) negotiate with the SLPP Aspirant?”

Mr. Koroma, may I ask if you have properly read the entire article? If so, why do you think the Reverend need to have negotiated with the SLPP aspirant when she has no business with the said property? According to the article, she got involved in this matter simply because she thinks she is a law enforcer—demanding that the land owner (the person that bought the land from the Reverend) should not erect the fence along a certain demarcation because it will impede vehicular access. The said access road is the one the SLPP aspirant is alleged to be using to reach her house. So instead of involving ministry of lands, she is using her SLPP connections to terrorize, and intimidate people she disagrees with in the area.

By all indications, the Reverend gentleman’s only crime is to come to the scene with his documentation to clearly point out the boundary demarcation of the property he sold to the owner. He absolutely did nothing wrong. The so called bodyguard of the SLPP aspirant in civilian clothing almost took a life. Land issues and disputes are very common in Freetown. Why will any law abiding and decent human being aim a gun and pull a trigger with the intention of killing during an argument? Between the Reverend and the attempted murder guy, who should have been arrested? Again, if the SLPP aspirant has issues with her neighbors, why send her bodyguard there instead of calling the police? It really sad how most of you guys look at issues purely on political basis. Imagine if a relative of yours was involved in such a situation, would you have made the same comments?

  2. Good to hear it – The good Reverend is man of integrity and honour. They should keep their filthy, lawless, tribalistic hands off him. Their paltry game of selective intimidation has failed them miserably.(lol) The legendary APC is still standing tall like a Colossal giant, unfazed, unbowed, and undisturbed, despite, the countless insufferable insults, ceaseless abuses, bullying and calculated witch hunts it is being deviously subjected to on a regular basis.

Nothing’s lost at all – the good Doctor is alive and kicking, his family is doing fine and the world now knows his story – a story of a Patriot that served his nation well, a God fearing man being attacked, molested and bullied by some erratic, Fascist Gestapos now holding on to power. To the Good Reverend I say: Hold on to your faith! Be bold and strong.

These are the days and seasons of evil, when injustices and wrongdoings are embraced, encouraged and nurtured by tyrants and dictators, disguised as democratic leaders. The APC is going nowhere – it is unafraid and unruffled. We are like agile, ferocious, merciless lions when we are surrounded and under attack. Yep, in times of dangers and imminent threats that’s when we become more embolden, firmly resolved and focused…Better believe it! Rising Sun will Rise Again.

  3. “The good Reverend has been released on his own cognizance”, which is great. WAS HE RELEASED BY ODERS FROM ABOVE? Infact I have to put the blame on the Reverend for having waited so long that the matter escalated to the present level, because, “once a policeman is ever a policeman”! and it’s so all over the world.

If the Reverend had taken the matter to the Police or consulted the Ministry of Lands (as he was the seller of the Land) before, we would not have got the present situation. Unfortunately some People believe that Politicians are enemies. They are not, so why can’t a Reverend (though former ADC) negotiate with the SLPP Aspirant?

OUR ONLY PROBLEM IN SL IS THAT THE OPPOSITION HAS NEVER ACCEPTED DEFEAT! IF THE OPPOSITION WOULD ENGAGE THEMSELVES WITH SOMETHING BENEFICIAL AND ALLOW THE PRESENT GOVT. DO IT’S WORK, IT WOULD BE A GOOD THING FOR US ALL.

  4. PRAISE BE TO GOD! ALHADULIllAH! LOVELY and CONFIDENT faces there. I will never forget those LOVELY PICTURES. Indeed. Thanks for the “awareness raised by the EDITOR OF THE SIERRA LEONE TELEGRAPH – MR Abdul Rashid Thomas”. GOD BLESS YOU. DEMOCRACY and the RULE of LAW has WON. BARBARITY has been DEFEATED and DUMPED to the place it rightly belongs. A warning SHOT SIGNAL has also been sent to NPRC JUNTA PART III. No return to those DARK AGES. PERIOD!

VIVE LA REPUBLIQUE! VIVE LA DEMOCRATIE EN SIERRA LEONE! VIVE LE GRAND – CHEF Sam Sumana! VIVE L’APC! VIVE NOUS TOUS! VIVE LA SIERRA LEONE! We will not RELENT on our MISSION to make sure that our LEADERS and GOVERNMENT LEAD BY THE RULES and respect our DEMOCRACY and CONSTITUTION!

LONG LIVE Reverend Shyllon, his LOVELY and BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS and associates. GOD BLESS Mr Abdul Rashid Thomas, Dr. Sylvia Blyden and all those who contributed to the DEFEAT OF BARBARITY. GOD BLESS THE APC LEADERSHIP and GOD help “GET SALONE SORTED”.
