Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE yesterday Monday 23 February received Dr. Nikolaus Marschik, Secretary General for Foreign Affairs at Austria’s Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and a delegation on a courtesy visit in Freetown.
The engagement provided an opportunity for Freetown to share perspectives and priorities to inform Austria’s emerging strategy for engagement with Africa.
The meeting also discussed the city’s development challenges, including structural challenges such as limited land-use planning systems, building permit regulation gaps, and the pressures of rapid population growth without commensurate urban management frameworks.
The Mayor further presented Freetown’s development roadmap, anchored on a single overarching goal of job creation, delivered through four strategic clusters.
