President Bio reminds ECOWAS of the need for peace in Mali

Sierra Leone Telegraph: 28 July 2020:

Yesterday, Monday 27 July 2020, Sierra Leone’s president Dr Julius Maada Bio addressed the Extraordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) through video conferencing, where he said that maintaining peace and stability is critical for the collective development agenda of the region.

President also reminded the ECOWAS Commission that there is an urgent need for a peaceful settlement to the political crisis in Mali, while extending his deepest gratitude for its mediation missions.

“Our democratic credentials in the region are being challenged. Sierra Leone stands with the rest of ECOWAS on fostering and maintaining a culture of democracy across the region.

“Excellencies, may I reiterate that it is highly important to maintain peace and order in Mali. Extremist terrorist activity in the North of Mali has spread to neighbouring Niger, Burkina Faso, and further threatens the security of the entire region,” he warned.

The President also commended the President of the Commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, Vice President Madam Finda Koroma; Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, General Francis A. Behanzin; and, Heads of ECOWAS Institutions and agencies for their continued dedication and commitment.

“In line with the views expressed, Sierra Leone condemns all forms of violence and urges all concerned parties to consider the recommendations put forward by the mediation team led by Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Additionally, Sierra Leone urges strong support for a more robust mandate for MINUSMA.

“Sierra Leone reaffirms its commitment to and support for a peaceful resolution in Mali and encourages President Keita and all other parties to adhere to the decisions of this extraordinary session within an agreed timeline,” he urged.

President Bio concluded by suggesting that in order to maintain good governance, peace, and security in the ECOWAS region it is important to resolve the current socio-political crisis in Mali without delay.

  1. This is very sad to read, by someone claiming to be a sierra Leonean about the current president of that country. This current president has offered nothing but violence, using the name of the opposition APC. You are the leader of the country for God’s sake. WHY is the APC party always the defensive mechanism of the Bio government? SLPP is in power because people wanted a change from the past APC. Why cant they understand this and take the responsibility of the government?

I am very much tired with partisan politics in our developing countries. Praising the President for his looks and knowledge – that is sad. I cannot believe this is coming from a true educated sierra Leonean.

  2. This President is one of the finest leader Sierra Leoneans have been given as a gift from God, a peaceful young eloquent man. I am so proud of him to say anywhere else today around the globe that” I am a Sierra Leonean”. A man with peace, wisdom, charismatic in knowledge as well. Papa Bio, may God continue to protect you to take this country forward as planned, Inshallau.

This is the work of APC and their thugs. Sierra Leone will only be in peace if they are in power or else, no peace. Is this what you call I have true love for my country? Sorry to say this but have my sympathy. If you can’t find or create some place of love in your heart for this President, well the others do. The APC party leadership and their thugs have thrown all their million patterns against this President but unsuccessful. Bio is not a coward soldier, you can’t shake the tree and expect him to answer your call in the neighboring country – no!. He’s well trained brother. I personally admire my President, H.E.RTD.BRG.DR.J.M.B. giving speech to all African heads of states, sitting listening to this young dynamic intelligent leader of the small west African state Sierra Leone. I can’t even imagine how I can express my joy. Thank you Mr. President. Bio is a man of peace.

Even the incident that occurred in Makeni the last time it should have been prevented. May God have mercy on the innocent victims gentle soul. APC have the knowledge that, without that generator the Makeni residents will still enjoy electricity and was taken away temporarily not permanent. But the APC leadership encouraged the innocents to go and incite violence to create a bad and evil image for the Bio administration. You think the world not watching? Most of these guys that are inciting and encouraging violence are not even living in the country. We know most of you that using false names, in order for them to do whatever. May God protects this country from another civil war.

  3. Oh Bio, your ineptitude and lack of common sense Will never cease to amaze me…JMB please remember no matter how long is the NIGHT, the DAY is sure to come.

  4. Well you see what angers and bothers me about this President? President Bio reminds ECOWAS about the need for peace in Mali and not about the need for peace in Sierra Leone. He knows very well that Sierra Leone needs a very robust peace and national unity strategy, which he alone can genuinely start. This was not the way PC Foamansa Matturi I and PC Nyagua use to lead in those days.

President Bio must read history and see how these two great men, not only defended their regions militarily, but the way they dealt with the British, both politically and diplomatically to bring peace in Sierra Leone and the southern parts of Guinea. What the hell is going on? R. I. P. Late PC Foamansa Matturi I and PC Nyagua. See you soon ladies and gentlemen.

  5. According to Rev. Martin Luther King,Jr. HATRED takes a toll on the HATER. “Hater can’t see straight because their vision is distorted, he comes to the point that he becomes a pathological case. Hater can call a beautiful person ugly, and the truth becomes false because the symbol of objectivity is lost. Hate destroys the very structure of the personality of the hater”.

  6. When we hear the old cliche’ that when pointing a finger at someone, four of your own figures are pointing at you, we don’t think much of it anymore. But it holds true now as it ever did. It is quite possible, that left alone in a room in the future, the Malian President will have a heated exchange with our Maada Bio in which language unbecoming of a head of state, will be the norm, so that the message can sink. Much of the fire will be spat out by the Malian President; he will say to our Maada “why don’t you take care of the violence in your country, that the world hears about all the time, before trying to lecture me on violence in my country “?

  7. Ok folks, contrary to what delusional diehard PAOPA supporters will deceptively want the world to believe, disconnected far from the realities on the ground, here are the global peace index ranking of Sierra Leone for the past 6 years, you be the judge if we are heading towards the right direction:

2014 ranked 42nd out of 172 independent states (APC in power)
2015 ranked 45th out of 172 independent states (APC in power)
2016 ranked 41st out of 172 independent states ( APC in power)
2017 ranked 40th out of 172 independent states (APC in power)
2018 ranked 34th out of 172 independent states (APC in power)
2019 ranked 52nd out of 172 independent states (SLPP in power)
2020 ranked 46th out of 172 independent states (SLPP in power)

  8. Based on the recent 2020 peace index in Africa, Sierra Leone is one of the most peaceful countries, so President Maada Bio is well qualified to remind ECOWAS of the need for peace in Mali which has a democratic elected president. The whole world knows Sierra Leone is a peaceful country. although the corrupt AYAMPI APC party losers are trying all their best in keeping their promise “to make our country ungovernable” and hoping to scare potential investors away and tarnishing our peaceful image. Let’s continue to pray for Mali for total peace by eliminating the Muslim terrorist extremists.

  9. This is classic, Do as I say, don’t do as I do. My ribs are cracking!President Bio has got the brass neck to preach to the Malian president about human rights, and upholding the rule of law to prevent this ineffective president Bubarkar Keita, undermining the security of the ECOWAS subregion. Thats all well and good. If these words of wisdom were coming from the Gambian, Togolese, Ghanian , Senegalese , Benin, Liberian , Guinea Bissau and to some extent the Ivory coast leadership, you will say the Malian president will sit up and pay attention to what they have to say. The rest have no right to tell him about it and this is despite having four thousand French troops, and thousands of UN peace keepers in his country.

Mali is still embroiled in a deadly fight against Islamic and Al Qiada freelance terrorists. Indeed the demonstration against his presidency , happened at the backdrop of President Keita’s son, was caught on a social media posting pictures of himself, holidaying in a yacht, whilst the government is failing to protect communities, that found themselves in the receiving end of unchecked deadly Islamic terrorist activities in the middle, and north of Mali . The country is still reeling from the abduction of the main opposition leader, and the government is not doing enough to find him.

I would like to see peace return to the West African sub-region, just like it use to be, before Charles Taylor and his NPLF fighters invaded liberia in 1989.Before that, our West African region was the most peaceful in Africa. Now the ECOWAS leaders have learnt a lesson from that episode. They will not allow a wannabe tin pot dictator in their back door. Maybe, if they had applied that principle on Samuel K. Doe, our region would never have embroiled in the civil wars that followed. Yayah Jammeh – Maybe there are one or two lessons here for president Bio to learn from as well. May God bless the republic of Sierra Leone.

  10. Hahahaha African leaders are the biggest hypocrites you can find anywhere on our beautiful planet earth;these fraudsters don’t ever practice what they preach and are always quickly on their feet to give their fake cosmetic advice – look who is talking about maintaining peace in Mali; An audacious bold-faced anarchist, lawless to the bone and marrow.(lol) Hey Mr President these timeless words are for you; “How can you say to your brother,’Brother let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brothers eyes.

(Luke 6:42..NIV.) Christ the Master says, stop the hypocrisy – cease stoking fires of discord and hatred in your own backyard and neck of the woods first then only will you be able to muster true courage and credibility to sincerely help others. Clear enough? Think for a minute, there’s no sustainable peace in Sierra Leone and this President is busy living it up showboating on a video conferencing call totally unashamed to give his bogus spurious advice to others.(lol)

  11. Do as I say, but don’t do what I do, hahahaha. President Bio, whose country is embroiled in continuous spate of political violence and instability ever since he assumed the affairs of the state, is hypocritically lecturing Malian people about democratic principles. A man who on several occasions, failed to step up as a leader whenever calamity befall our nation via security personnel killing of innocent citizens, is now appearing to show leadership in another man’s land. Indeed wonders shall never cease to exist!!
