Supreme Court throws out action against Dr Samura and the Electoral Commission – Op ed

Kabs Kanu: Sierra Leone Telegraph: 01 June 2023:

When in my unofficial legal analysis, I hinted that nothing would come out of the Supreme Court application by Paul Kamara and Alimamy Coulson Turay against the Electoral Commissioner, ECSL, Dr. Samura Kamara and the APC, angry SLPP supporters, in one of their forums, took me to task and even questioned me to publish my legal qualification. I did not indulge them in their childishness.

Today, the Supreme Court struck out the application because of faulty legal construction. The applicants did not comply with Rule 90 ( 1) of the Supreme Court Rules , Public Notice 1 of 1982 .

The originating notice of motion has therefore been struck out, pursuant to Rule 90 ( 3) of the Supreme Court Rules . That means that the matter has been thrown out .

This is another very big blow to the rebels of the APC, led by one Alfred Peter Conteh, who are ostensibly being used by the SLPP ( hiding in the background ) to cripple the presidential candidacy of Dr. Samura Kamara.

Now, we move to June 24 when Dr. Samura Kamara will become the next President of Sierra Leone.

If God has destined that SAMURA KAMARA will be the next President, APC rebels and the SLPP can do their devilish best, but they will not succeed.

Thank God for another victory for the people of Sierra Leone.

  1. To me, SLPP and APC are one and same ; they have been so for virtually sixty two years if one were to exclude the Sir Milton Margai years. And that’s why I cannot stomach both of them. I make a little holiday in my heart when I see them tearing each other apart or tethering on the brink of implosion. Misery is what they have visited on us for more than six decades.

I had pinned my hopes on KKY (NGC) for a bloodless revolution, but such hopes have faded into infinity. Nothing can conceal the fact that KKY has returned to his roots (SLPP), which he really never left in the first place. May the Almighty Allah/God retrieve our dear country from the unconscionable clutches of these two distant relatives of the devil in His Unfathomable Mercy.

Assuming APC comes back, then what? Will official corruption end? Never? Will the country experience remarkable strides? I doubt it. May be Kabs Kanu should get closer to the APC power structure to pull them by the ear to show them the right path.

  2. “The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know”. Indeed the All Peoples Congress (APC) party is a very big and powerful party that has a reputation of winning elections in Sierra Leone more often than the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). This according to historical research is because of the charismatic leadership they used to have that represent the party coupled with their strategic gains in nurturing more grassroots to inculcate the parties ideology. But this is gradually demi nishing as a result of two things. Firstly, currently the center can not hold due to advanced technology and awareness of civilized politics. Secondly, the current leadership of the 2023 election is making several blunders in his campaign trail which is notable and may likely result to voter apathy for him. However, several educated and responsible candidates for member of parliament are being selected that will likely make the race for parliamentary seat been contested.
On the other hand, I see the incumbent president of the ruling party to clinch victory in the upcoming 2023 elections. This is because he has single handedly made critical decisions which are very good for the benefit of us all as we long to compete to live in a modern world. Thanks to our dynamic and forward looking parliamentarians whose effort can be complemented in seeing these gains were achieved. To name but a few: Free education for pupils; 30% women’s representation and the gender rights; the abolition of the death penalty; the independence of the Anti-corruption to execute his functions and its successes that superceded its failures over the years, nurses and teachers getting PIN codes that kept them on payroll and lastly the repeal of the Libel law under the public order act. With these gains made culminating with the way he has been expressing himself in his campaign speeches, I see him to win the June 2023 presidential election.
Nonetheless, this year’s election is about to come with a very surprising result in the race for Mayoral seat and parliamentary seats. However, It is going to be a win-win situation where opposition parties will have seats in parliament while the ruling party also will have a seat in parliament. When that occurs there will be Job created for our candidates and happiness we begin to flow.
I wish you all long life, good luck when your candidate wins and a peaceful elections come June 2023.
